Update from HNP Philippines

Lead by National Director Harold Buenvenida, our team at HNP Philippines showed out in force for a hugely successful activity in tree-planting last week. Alongside various other community groups, they helped to plant 500 trees and reforest a barren mountainside in Capiz.

The event was dedicated to the late Gina Lopez, environment secretary, who passed away just weeks before. This extraordinary character ordered the closure of over 20 mining firms in the Philippines due to environmental violations, headed various charity movements and performed admirably in driving improved well being for women and children in communities. It was thanks to her hard work and dedication that the Filipino people and ecosystems can benefit from the prosperous coexistence they enjoy today.

Earlier this month the HNP national team participated in a coastal clean-up and advocacy campaign about the pollution present in this space. They will also continue to monitor the revegetated area in the weeks and months to come to ensure the success of these fresh growths of trees. In doing so, they hope to incite greater awareness about environmental issues and promote volunteering in this space to Millennial who otherwise might be indifferent towards such matters.
